A huge furore was created by the BJP after record of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's post graduate degree went missing from Dayanand Anglo-Vedic (DAV) College.
BJP members gheraoed Kanpur University vice chancellor's office demanding the documents, which were found missing after Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman approached Agra's Bhim Rao Ambedkar University (BRAU) for it in June.
DAV College as well as the Kanpur University has denied having the record. "We were asked for documents related to Atal ji, we don't have them," Jayant Vinayak Vaishampayan, VC of Kanpur University, said.
"When Atal ji had studied, DAV college was under Agra University and not Kanpur University. So the documents are with Agra University," he added.
However, BJP leader Surendhra Mithani said that the Vice Chancellor will have to face grave consequences if he does not get the documents back.
"He should not take this issue lightly," he warned.
