9:30 a.m.: Buying was visible across the board barring select auto stocks. The oil & gas stocks were witnessing good buying interest. The BSE oil & gas index jumped over 1 per cent in the opening deals. Pharma, power, IT and capital goods stocks indices were also up 0.6-1 per cent each.
On the other hand, auto stocks were facing the heat of selling pressure. The Nifty Auto index slipped 0.74 per cent on the back of losses in Mahindra & Mahindra which fell nearly 6 per cent to Rs 1,208.50 after the Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to ban registration of diesel SUVs and cars over 2000 cc. Mahindra & Mahindra's portfolio comprises more of diesel SUVs.
From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 40 were advancing while 10 were declining.
Cairn India was the top Nifty gainer, up 4.4 per cent at Rs 132. GAIL India, BPCL, BHEL, ONGC, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharma were also among the gainers, up 1-3 per cent each.
On the other hand, Tata Motors, Wipro, ITC, Ambuja Cements and ICICI Bank were among the laggards.
9:20 a.m.: The Sensex jumped over 100 points and Nifty moved above its crucial psychological level of 7,700 in the opening deals on Wednesday on the back of broad-based buying.
The Sensex advanced 125 points to 25,445 and the 50-share Nifty jumped 34 points to hit high of 7,735.
