While we look ahead at a new year, social media sites like to remind us of the past.
At the end of 2014, Facebook played its users a review of the year and had to apologize to a few individuals for showing them pictures of deceased relatives.
To avoid ending the year on a bad note, Facebook ‘applied a unique set of filters’ to prevent unwanted photos from showing up in this year’s review.

‘We won’t show you photos where memorialized accounts or exes are tagged, or photos with people you’ve blocked or added to your On This Day preferences,’ according to a Facebook spokesperson.
‘Year in Review’ is a special tool that appears at the end of the year and creates an automated slideshow of pictures that you uploaded of the entire year.

And this year, the social media site is implementing the same technology its Timehop clone, ‘On This Day’ does.
Since technology isn’t always perfect, Facebook has also added the option of deleting a depressing image just in case the algorithm doesn’t catch it.

FACEBOOK AND UBER JOIN FORCES

This month, Facebook revealed an alliance with Uber  that lets people summon cars from the ride-sharing service using the Messenger smartphone application.
The partnership was a major move for both California firms, further expanding Facebook's stand-alone messaging service beyond simply communicating and putting Uber in a social network-backed application with some 700 million users.
Uber was described as the first partner in the launch of 'transportation on Messenger,' leaving the door open to add Uber rivals as options for users of the smartphone messaging service.
Uber is making its Messenger debut in the United States in the latest version of the application.
Rosenberg promised that more countries and partners would be soon added.
People can access the feature by tapping a 'transportation' menu tab or can enter Uber as a search query, according to Facebook.
If you want to edit and personalize the photos chosen for your review, you can pick any images you or someone else has added.
Just click ‘share’ when you’re done and your photos can be seen by all of your friends at the top of your News Feed.
This isn’t the first time Facebook has introduced a filtering system to posts.
Last month, the social media network launched a feature that when you change your relationship status to 'single,' Facebook will ask if you want to 'take a break' from seeing pictures and posts of your ex. If you do, then their name won't automatically appear when you're writing a message or tagging friends in posts and photos.
You also have the option of hiding certain things you post from your ex and can also limit people's ability to see past posts where the two of you are together.
Facebook says it will never notify your former partner of your decision.
Up until now, the only options were to hide that person from your Newsfeed, unfriend them, or block them altogether.
Also this year, we were introduced to ‘cards’, Facebooks notification tab that looks very similar to those on Google Now.

Instead of simply seeing a list of Likes and requests, as on the current tab, the personalised design shows birthdays, weather reports, trending topics and local news.
Along with traditional notifications, the tab can be customised with localised and timely info such as friends’ milestones, including birthdays and life events, sports scores and TV reminders, and upcoming events.
This information is taken from the Pages a user has liked, their Friends list and Events tab.
The updated notifications tab also lets users add additional, optional information to personalise the 'cards' further.
If Location History is enabled, for example, these cards will include local events and news that is popular nearby.
Other localised options include weather updates, like current conditions and severe weather alerts, cinema times, and a list of nearby places to eat, with links to the Facebook Pages and reviews.
