NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal's top bureaucrat arrived at the CBI headquarters again this morning after he was questioning for hours and released late last night on a day of dramatic developments that saw the Delhi Chief Minister calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "coward and psychopath" over daylong raids at his office.
Mr Kejriwal said he was the target of the raids, not his principal secretary Rajender Kumar, who has been accused of corruption.
Rajender Kumar, an IAS officer, has been accused of setting up various companies that were given work contracts without tenders at a huge loss to the Delhi government. The alleged irregularities took place before the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power, first in 2013 and then earlier this year.
The CBI has charged Mr Kumar with criminal conspiracy and misconduct. The ruling AAP alleges that the evidence against him is not strong enough.
Last night, Mr Kejriwal said the real reason for the raid was to search his offices for a file linked to cricket corruption allegedly involving Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Mr Jaitley said in response: "His morning statement appeared to be prima facie factually incorrect but his evening statement is absolutely rubbish. I don't think I should comment on rubbish."
AAP alleges that there were financial irregularities when Mr Jaitley was the president of the DDCA or Delhi and District Cricket Association for 13 years till December, 2013.
"It has become important for me to tell why the CBI raided the Chief Minister's office. The CBI had come to search for the DDCA files which have Arun Jaitley's name, as he was the former President of DDCA and probe is on in the case. I want to tell Modi ji. You may have scared others but I am not going to be scared of CBI, You don't know what I am made of," Mr Kejriwal said.
